Michael Gealt Named as CMU Interim President

The Central Michigan University board of trustees has named an interim president for the school.

CMU Executive Vice President and Provost Michael Gealt was appointed to the position Monday during a special board meeting.

Gealt has been serving as provost at the university since 2013 after moving to Michigan from Arkansas, where he was dean of the college of science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Gealt will begin serving as interim president on Aug. 1 and remain in the position until the university’s 15th president takes office.

The board chairman says they plan to name a new president next month.

They will replace current President George Ross, who announced his retirement in January.

He will officially step down Tuesday.
