Michigan Officials Accuse Flint of Ignoring Millions in Water Crisis Funds

Michigan officials are accusing Flint of neglecting tens of millions of dollars in federal and state aid available to help the city improve its water system after the Flint water crisis.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality sent a letter to the city’s chief financial officer on Wednesday saying Flint has only used 17 percent of the $167 million available to improve the city’s water system since 2017.

State officials say Flint’s neglect comes as city officials are telling contractors they don’t have enough money to pay for more than a partial contract.
