Mason County Mourns Passing of Community Icon

The Mason County community is remembering Mike McDonald, a longtime fixture in the community.

McDonald was a firefighter, proud business owner and volunteer.

He owned and operated McDonald’s bakery in Ludington for decades.

The building still bears his name as a Cops & Doughnuts bakery.

He was also a firefighter and volunteer with the Mason County Historical Society and White Pine Village.

He even donated a historic fire engine to the village and loved telling visitors about it.

“We’re going to miss his passion of course, his passion for this fire barn, his passion generally speaking for all of historic White Pine Village, and for all that we do as Mason County Historical Society,” said Executive Director Dr. Rick Plummer.

McDonald’s funeral will be on August 4 at St. Simon Catholic Church in Ludington at 2 p.m.
