LSSU to Keep Norris Center Pool Open
The Sault Ste. Marie community is rejoicing after Lake Superior State University announced they now plan to keep their swimming pool open.
Back in May we told you about the school’s plans to close the Norris Center pool, in part to save money, renovate the center and meet Title IX regulations.
The decision caused a stir in the community where many say it’s one of the only public pools in the area.
New LSSU President Rodney Hanley says he heard from the people, took a look at the numbers and plans on keeping the pool open for now.
“It’s an exciting day, a really exciting day, to me the biggest reaction is to just see a college and a university that cares about its community that is not just going to invest in college students who come here from far away, but invest in our local communities,” Swim Coach and Parent Steve Habusta, said.
The university president says it will need some work and community help to keep the pool open for the foreseeable future.
