Resentencing for Man Convicted of Murder in Grand Traverse Co. On Hold

The resentencing for a man convicted of murder in Grand Traverse County is on hold.

The prosecutor is now asking the Michigan Supreme Court to reconsider Robert Schwander’s first sentence.

In the original sentence he was ordered to spend 40 to 70 years in prison for stabbing 16-year-old Carly Lewis in 2011.

At that time, Schwander was 17- years-old.

Earlier this month, the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled he should have another sentencing hearing.

The court believes his punishment was too harsh and did not have a good reason for why it went beyond sentencing guidelines.

This would be his fourth resentencing, which will now be pushed back until the Grand Traverse County prosecutor finds out if the Michigan Supreme Court will pick up this case.
