Time Capsule from 50 Years Ago Opened At Sault Ste. Marie’s 350th Birthday Celebration

“The excitement of not knowing what’s inside, ohhhhh!”

All year long, Sault Sainte Marie has been celebrating its 350th birthday with special events.

The event brought them back 50 years.

A time capsule from 1968 was recently discovered on the Lake Superior State University Campus.

Friday, the contents were put on display at the opening ceremony of the 350th festival.

What was thought lost over the years, was found just in time for the city’s celebration.

“2018, we are here. Because here is that 50 years, and here’s what has happened in 50 years, and how things have changed. So yeah, it’s pretty exciting,” said Linda Hoath, with the Soo Area Conventions and Visitor’s Bureau.

The city plans on creating a new time capsule to be opened in 2068, when the Soo turns 400.

It will be kept in the city hall for safe keeping.
