OASIS Shares Tips on Finding Support After Sexual Assault

For victims of sexual assault, the suffering stretches far beyond the actual incident.

But there are resources available to help those victims.

OASIS in Cadillac is one of those resources.

They want to remind people that finding help can be easy as searching online for support groups, organizations, or agencies.

Most college campuses also have counseling centers that can be extremely helpful.

“A victim can go through a lot of things. And it might take them a while to get them back into that headspace. Being traumatized through sexual assault can actually create some issues with memory and with intrusive thoughts and things like that and just giving yourself time to recover that this isn’t something that you can automatically get over,” Angela Cook-Hoekwater, sexual assault counselor at OASIS said.

If you or someone you know needs help, you can call this 24/7 crisis line at (231) 775-7233, visit OASIS, or visit RAINN.org
