Man Accused of Pointing Gun at Grand Traverse Co. Deputy Now Charged

The man accused of pointing a gun at a Grand Traverse County deputy has just been charged.

Sam Carpenter is charged with assaulting a police officer.

On Tuesday, deputies were called to Cherryland Mobile Home Park for reports of a suicidal man.

A standoff started when they got there.

That’s when Carpenter came out of the home and pointed what was believed to be a gun in the direction of a deputy.

The deputy then fired one shot, but it did not hit anyone.

The sheriff’s office tells us that deputy will continue on with his normal schedule.

Through a search, only two airsoft guns were found which they believe is what Carpenter pointed at the deputy.

Carpenter is also ordered to not have any contact with his girlfriend.
