Leelanau County Standoff Ends Peacefully

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office says a standoff ended safely after a man pointed a gun at a tribal officer.

The sheriff’s office says the standoff happened at a home on South Herman Road in Suttons Bay Township around 10:30 Sunday night.

They say a man was threatening to shoot himself.

When two tribal officers arrived they negotiated with him and were able to get family members out of the house.

But during those negotiations he pointed the gun at one of the officers.

They quickly left the house and waited for backup.

During the negotiations nearby homes were evacuated.

The man eventually surrendered after 2 Monday morning.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment and evaluation.

A report is being sent to the prosecutor’s office.
