A Brilliant Read From Northern Michigan, ‘Windigo Moon: A Novel of Native America’

The local writing scene is wonderful, and there are plenty of authors making their mark in Northern Michigan.

If you’re looking for something new and different to dig into this summer, Anthony Ascione from Brilliant Books in Traverse City has another local suggestion: “Windigo Moon: A Novel of Native America” by Robert Downes.

“Robert Downes, who was actually the founder of Northern Express back in the day–fun fact, this is sort of a historical epic about two warring native american tribes and it deals with love and war and it deals with magic and folklore; a lot of fun,” Ascione says. “It’s very popular. He comes in here (the store) all the time, I don’t know if this is one of the signed copies, we occasionally have signed copies. He comes in and we sort of sneakily puts his pen in. I actually just started reading this one and i’m really really enjoying it.”
