Mecosta County Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested in Chicago

A Mecosta County bank robbery suspect has been arrested in Chicago after nearly 24 hours on the run.

The robbery happened Thursday afternoon just after 12:30 at the Isabella Bank branch on Perry Street in Big Rapids Township.

Deputies say Nicholas Nelson went into the bank and used a cell phone to type a message demanding money from the teller. Right now it’s not clear how much money he got away with.

We’re told no weapons were involved and no one was hurt.

Investigators tell us Nelson recently got out of jail, and fled the Big Rapids area after the robbery.

The Mecosta County Sheriff says Nelson was arrested in Chicago on Friday.
