Plane Believed to be Missing Since 1997 Discovered in St. Ignace

A plane that had been missing since 1997 has been located in St. Ignace.

Drummond Island Airport says the wreckage was located near the National Forest in St. Ignace on Wednesday.

The airplane pilot and passenger had been reported missing since that time.

Mark Davies and his wife Janet were heading north to Howell from  from Drummond Island.

The National Transportation Safety Board says the plane was seen on the radar flying south, then it turned and flew north. That’s when it disappeared.

The plane had been searched for four days by the Coast Guard and Civil Air Patrol but they ended the search.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
