Lt. Governor Brian Calley Visits Traverse City Before Gubernatorial Debate

Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley was in Northern Michigan ahead of another GOP gubernatorial debate Thursday.

We caught up with him in Traverse City, where he was touring the tent craft facility.

Calley toured the facility to meet with the employees and learn about how the company that started with two employees has turned into an international business with more than one hundred employees.

Their business model is one that fits into Calley’s idea of pushing and growing skilled trades in Michigan.

Calley feels that tent craft paints a perfect picture of the entrepreneurial spirit and the kind of companies leading the comeback of Michigan.

“It wasn’t that long ago our biggest problem in Michigan was not enough jobs, but today we hear from employers from Traverse City to Alpena to Detroit, the biggest problem they’re facing is they cannot find enough people for the jobs. So it’s really all about talent, talent development and making sure that our kids and our Pre-k through 12 system are prepared for life not just taking tests it’s bringing back skilled trades in a big way,” Calley said.

The GOP candidate debate will take place at 7 Thursday at the Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire.

We’ll have more details on that coming up tonight on 9&10 News at 11.
