State to Hear Public Comment on Proposal to Add Anchor Supports to Line 5

State regulators will be taking public comment in Mackinaw City, focused on Enbridge’s proposal to put more anchor supports on its Line 5 pipelines in the Straits of Mackinac.

Enbridge wants to install 48 more supports.

They would be attached to the pipes and then screwed into the lakebed.

The DEQ granted a permit for 22 supports earlier this year, after gaps were discovered.

The hearing takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mackinaw Public Schools.
