Local Groups Clean Up Beach after National Cherry Festival

The National Cherry Festival tourists are going home, but the trash that is left behind will remain.

But a few local groups wanted to do something about that

They’re targeting plastics and getting plastic trash off the beach and out of the water.

Today’s event was hosted by GoSili, which creates plastic free kitchenware.

They linked with more than 20 other volunteers to restore West End Beach to its fullest potential.

“A lot of times after Cherry Festival, lots of things go in the water, things get into the bushes,” said Stacey Feeley, CEO of GoSili. “We have a ton of volunteers today to make sure the beaches and the water stays clean and continue to enjoy that.”

In Michigan, littering is a civil infraction. Littering even small amounts can result in costly fines.
