Sen. Stabenow Supported Bill that Helps Cherry Growers

Michigan senator Debbie Stabenow is in Traverse City this weekend.

She was in town tonight for the National Cherry Festival Queen’s Ball.

Last week, she helped pass a bi-partisan farm bill that will affect all American farmers – including Northern Michigan’s cherry growers.

The bill includes crop insurance, so if there’s unusual weather that hurts the harvest, they’ll still be eligible for a paycheck.

“If we have an early thaw, and then a freeze, and a crop is wiped out, our cherry growers are in a tough position,” said Senator Stabenow. “But not anymore because [the Farm Bill] has support for marketing help with research, and a whole range of things that help our cherry growers”

Stabenow will walk in the National Cherry Royale Parade Saturday morning.
