Enbridge Files Lawsuit Against Company Accused of Damaging Line 5

Enbridge has filed a lawsuit against the company accused of damaging the controversial Line 5 pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac.

Enbridge filed the complaint in federal court in Detroit on Tuesday, against Van Enkevort Tug and Barge.

The company is accused of dragging an anchor in a no-anchor zone of the Straits back in April, causing damage to two underwater power lines which then leaked almost 600 gallons of mineral oil, and causing damage to Enbridge’s Line 5.

Enbridge is now accusing Van Enkevort of negligence, and is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for things like repair costs and legal fees.

Enbridge maintains that Line 5 is fit for service, despite the damage caused by the anchor.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has also filed a lawsuit against Van Enkevort.
