Notorious French Gangster Escapes Prison in Theatrical Manner

A massive manhunt continues in France Tuesday.

Investigators say a notorious gangster broke out of prison for the second time. Redoine Faid made his escape Sunday by helicopter, a scene right out of the movies.

Three heavily armed accomplices kidnapped a pilot from a local flying club, hijacked his helicopter and forced him to land on a portion of the prison that didn’t have anti-aircraft netting.

They were strapped with automatic rifles, set off smoke bombs and used power tools to cut through the door where Faid was waiting.

The kidnapped pilot was found hours after the escape.

He was not hurt but his chopper was torched.

Faid was in prison for the murder of a police officer on a 25-year sentence.
