Lake Leelanau Man Facing Charges for Drug Crimes, Counterfeit Money

A anonymous caller led to the arrest of a 35-year-old Lake Leelanau man last Thursday.

Someone called police saying that he saw a driver asleep in his car on the side of South Popp Road. The caller woke up the driver who continued on his way before pulling off the road again and falling asleep.

Deputies arrived to find the man asleep with the car running. After seeing a BB gun fall from his holster, deputies patted the man down.

Police say they found illegal pills, a loaded syringe and a large amount of bills, which were later determined to be fake.

The man was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, having counterfeit money and having meth.

On Sunday police went to the man’s home where they found meth making items in a detached garage as well as more counterfeit money.

The man is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday and is being held at the Leelanau County jail.
