Cadillac Freedom Festival to Close with a Bang

“We come every year, and it gets bigger and better every year. It’s just a great place to come,” says Cynthia Laverty, who attended the Cadillac Freedom Festival.

Another festival going on this weekend is the Freedom Festival in downtown Cadillac.

The event kicked off Friday with plenty of food, music, and activities for kids.

Sunday was the last day of the Freedom Festival and included carnival rides, a rib tasting, and the awards ceremony for the Pork in the Park Barbecue Challenge.

We talked to many people at the festival.

They say it’s a fun family event, and its small size compared to the National Cherry Festival makes it fun for everyone.

“There isn’t as many people as last year, but I think that’s because of the heat,” says Laverty. “There’s more things to do this year then there was last year, but it was fun last year too. It’s fun every year. The merchants are great to visit. There’s plenty of stores to shop in, restaurants, it’s got everything.”

The Freedom Festival is set to end with a bang, as the fireworks display will begin when the sun goes down tonight.

The Freedom Festival posted on Facebook, saying the severe weather isn’t stopping them from putting on a fireworks display, although it may start late.
