Thousands Fill Soo Locks for Engineer’s Day

It was a great start to Engineer’s Day, with two freighters greeting those first in the gate.

The annual event draws thousands of people from around the world.

It’s the only day of the year the grounds inside the locks are open to the public for self-guided tours.

“It’s fun to come here to people watch, and to see the sites!  I love the ships, love the scenery.  Sault Sainte Marie is a neat city and I enjoy coming,” says John Treweek from Wausau, Wisconsin.

With the dry, but very warm day, the locks were ready to welcome a record number of visitors.
