Escape The Heat: Places to Stay Cool in Northern Michigan

Temperatures are rising and the weekend forecast is in the upper 90s for many parts of Northern Michigan.

But for those that don’t have A.C. to come home to, there are a few places that are welcoming people to come inside and get away.

In Isabella County there will be a cooling center open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. It’s located at the Isabella County Commission on Aging at 2200 S Lincoln Road, Mount Pleasant.

Anyone is welcome to come, regardless of age. They are also offering transportation by calling (989) 772-9441.

If you’re in the Wexford County area, the Cadillac YMCA is also welcoming people inside to cool off in their lobby.

They are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. They are closed Sundays.

“For us, it’s just a nice thing to do. When it’s this hot people get cranky, they get upset. If you can go somewhere to cool off and lower your body the day is a lot easier to deal with,” Paul King, membership and marketing director for the Cadillac YMCA said.

In Grand Traverse County, a cooling center has been opened up at the East Bay Township Hall at 1965 N 3 Mile Road in Traverse City. For more information, call (231) 947-7286.
