A local chapter of Habitat for Humanity is building four houses for families in need right now and they need your help to get it done.

They’re hosting an event called “Raise the Roof” Thursday night to help fund the projects in Emmet and Charlevoix counties.

They’re hoping to build two houses in Boyne City and two in Alanson with the help of this fundraiser.

“Our mission is not only building homes but building communities and building hope,” Sarah Ulrich, Executive Director, Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity.

Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity has built more than forty homes since opening in 1991.

That’s a number they’re working to increase.

“We have four projects going on this year and each build is about $125,000 so that’s about half a million we need to raise,” says Ulrich.

They’re hoping to engage the communities they’re serving through fundraisers and volunteer opportunities.

“It’s a beautiful thing to be able to work as a volunteer and to be able to share some of the joy that these people experience being able to move into a beautiful home,” Larry Dolbee, construction manager.

Raise the roof is their biggest fundraiser of the year -and they’re hoping for a big turnout to continue raising money through a night of entertainment and an auction full of great items donated by local businesses.

“It’s certainly helpful to be able to raise the funds for this event because the cost of these is strictly built on grant money and also funds raised through fundraising events like Raise the Roof,” says Dolbee.

“Construction and labor costs continue to increase in Northern Michigan so having that volunteer support is really crucial for us to be able to build affordable homes for families,” says Ulrich.

Tickets are available for purchase at the door and online.
