9&10 Logo

Working out doesn’t have to be a chore—you can still enjoy the sunshine by making the outdoors your home gym.

Exercise Specialist Ben Watson has a few more workouts that can be done with a picnic table or park bench,

Tricep Dips

Begin seated facing away from the bench with heels of hands on the edge of the bench.

Slide off the bench so that weight is in arms and legs.

Descend by bending arms to a 90 degree angle.

Push up and straighten arms.

Repeat 8 to 12 repetitions to start and add more as you progress.

To change difficulty

  • Easier: Decrease the angle of the bend in the elbow.
  • Harder: Hover a leg.

Push-ups

Begin facing the bench in an elevated plank position with the hands on the bench seat.

Continue with normal push-ups.

Repeat 8 to 12 repetitions to start and add more as you progress.

To change difficulty

  • Harder: Put feet on bench and hands on the ground.

Push Up Knee crosses

Begin in a plank position with your hands on the bench and shoulders hovering directly over your hands.

While maintaining the flat plank position lift a leg and touch it to the opposite elbow then repeat with other leg.

Repeat 8 to 12 repetitions to start and add more as you progress.

To change difficulty

  • Easier: Remove the cross body component and touch knee to same elbow.
  • Harder: Increase the speed.
