Grand Traverse Co. Man Arrested for Attacking Gas Station Cashier, Customer

Grand Traverse County deputies say a man attacked a gas station cashier and another customer before being arrested at the Grand Traverse Mall.

The attack happened at the Shell station on Lafranier and South Airport Road.

Deputies say a Garfield Township man walked into the gas station, said, “Life is about doing what makes you happy,” and started punching the cashier.

They say another customer stepped in and was also punched.

Deputies say the man then took off on foot.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they say the suspect came back and took off in his car.

The deputy couldn’t pull him over, but realized he matched a witness description.

Shortly after, deputies received a call about a disorderly man pushing security guards at the Grand Traverse Mall. That’s where police arrested him.

Investigators believe the man was under the influence of drugs and they issued a search warrant for a blood test.

He was arrested for aggravated assault, flee and elude fourth degree and operating while under the influence of drugs.
