Generator Ignites Fire Aboard Freighter, USCG Says All 23 Crew Members OK

The Motor Vessel Paul R. Tregurtha’s generator ignited a fire early Monday morning.

The fire started around 4:20 a.m. and was extinguished by 5:30 a.m.

The US Coast Guard says there were no injuries or pollution.

They say 23 members were aboard the 1,013 ft. bulk carrier freighter, which was carrying 68,200 tons of coal, 124,000 gallons of fuel and 88,000 gallons of caustic soda.

The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the incident.

The vessel is anchored near Point Iroquois in Whitefish Bay.
