Cheboygan Co. Caregiver Accused of Embezzling From Vulnerable Adult

A caregiver from Cheboygan County has been charged with embezzlement after the undersheriff says she used several credit cards belonging to the woman she was caring for.

Christina Long was hired about six years ago by a local senior citizen to help with general house care duties.

In February of this year, deputies say the victim’s son became concerned because he wasn’t receiving credit card bills from his mother.

That’s when he noticed suspicious activity on three of his mother’s credit cards dating back to December of last year.

An investigation led deputies to Long, who’s accused of using the credit cards more than 30 times.

The sheriff also says Long stole several hundred dollars in cash from checks the victim had written to pay for bills.

Long was arrested last week and charged with embezzling from a vulnerable adult, using a financial transaction device and larceny by conversion.

She posted bond, but is due back in court on June 25.
