Ban on Skateboarding, Biking in Traverse City Parks Lifted
Traverse City commissioners made a decision on skateboarding and biking Monday night.
Skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and bikes had been banned from city parks.
But commissioners voted to remove the ban.
Still, they upheld an existing rule that skating, biking and blading aren’t allowed on rails, walls or city steps.
Some in Traverse City feel the repeal will help bring more people out to city parks.
“I think it’s going to bring a lot more users to the park. People will just have to watch out for each other. I think it can work, people just have to be aware of it,” Tom Polls said.
At the city commission meeting, board members stressed the importance of sharing common pathways with pedestrians to keep everyone safe.
