Traverse City Church Gives Away Thousands of Dollars of Stuff to Families in Need

On Wednesday night, one local church hosted something like a garage sale. Except, it was even better, because everything was free.

The First Congregational Church in Traverse City put on the third annual Great Giveaway, where they distributed thousands of dollar’s worth of items to families in need.

“We want to bless our community, and there are a lot of people, a lot of families, that are on limited incomes and they can come to the Great Giveaway for their kids, for their home,” said lead pastor Chad Oyer. “That adds up 80 to 100 bucks. [That] adds up for a lot of families, so we think it’s a great way to bless families in our community.”

Church members donated items ranging from furniture, to sporting equipment and home goods. The First Congregational Church invited anyone to stop by and take as much stuff as they could fit in their cars. Within minutes of the giveaway, many tables were already cleared off.
