President Trump, Kim Kardashian West Combine Efforts to Free Woman Serving Life Sentence

A woman serving a life sentence on a first-time drug offense is now free thanks to the efforts of President Trump and Kim Kardashian West.

63-year-old Alice Johnson was released from a federal prison in Alabama Wednesday.

She served more than 20 years for a first-time, non-violent drug offense.

Johnson was convicted on eight criminal charges back in 1996 related to a cocaine trafficking operation in Memphis.

Kim Kardashian West visited the oval office last week to lobby for Johnson’s release while there to speak about prison reform.

The White House released a statement saying this administration will always be very tough on crime but it believes those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance.

This is the 6th clemency act the President has issued since taking office.
