Hometown Tourist: Three Pines Studio and Gallery

Cross Village is a quiet town at the tip of the mitt with gorgeous scenery and places to visit. Nestled into the town is a whimsical place called that started nearly 20 years ago.

What started off as a working studio for owners Joann and gene grew into an exhibit space for local artists north of the 45th Parallel, as well as a place to hold workshops for all ages in Cross Village.

“And we do about 120 workshops a year, we always like to say for 3 to 103, but from little tiny kids to older adults who love trying things out. I love having individuals discover that there is a creative spot in their hearts, in their head, and all they have to do is stop, and think, and relax and see,” said owner Joann Condino,

That includes workshops for woodblock printing and lessons from artists circling the globe, but for the little ones they do a little something special; gnome and fairy parties in their beautiful gardens.

“The individuals in the workshop get a book that we partner with Between the Covers in Harbor Springs and the kids do artwork in the spirit of those artists,” said Condino.

The gallery space is full of beautiful work from all sorts of media, and when you come to visit you’ll be sure to be welcomed the Italian way.

“I always think that when people come into the gallery they’re coming into our home, they’re coming into our minds, sort of we always because I am an Italian, offer espresso and lattes and cappuccino or tea,” said Condino.

At the end of the day, it’s all about spreading the joy of artwork and celebrating creativity in northern Michigan with anyone that comes through the door.

“My husband is a scientist and he has always said that artists and science share the most important things, and that is the scientific method. We observe, we record and we create. Our products are a little different possibly but the process is the same you have to see,” said Condino.
