Benzie Conservation Dist. Hope for Community Help in Platte, Betsie River Cleanup

Community members are grabbing their trash bags and heading toward the river.

The Benzie Conservation District is gathering volunteers to do some spring cleaning on the Platte River on Thursday.

They will be cleaning up all trash along its banks starting at 9 a.m.

Volunteers will meet at the Veterans Memorial State Forest campground in Benzie County.

With little river side access, volunteers are asked to bring their own canoe or kayak.

Benzie Conservation specialist Jon Ransom encouraged others to come out and volunteer to help protect the rivers.

“Living in Benzie County, we are blessed to have two beautiful rivers running through the county, so I think that as a conservation district it’s our mission to help preserve the natural resources and also to provide the community a way to get involved,” said Ransom.

The Benzie Conservation District is holding a Betsie River cleanup next Saturday, June 9.
