Clare County Couple Arrested for Stealing from Construction Site, Having Meth

A Clare County couple is accused of stealing three trailers full of supplies from a construction site, and having drugs.

Michigan State Police say James and Kimberly Besteman of Clare County stole equipment and supplies while working on a hotel construction site in Mount Pleasant.

Police say it’s been happening over the course of several months.

They arrested the couple at a home Tuesday.

Neighbors tell police they spent hours filling up three trailers of stolen items from a home and another home in Clare County.

Police say they found the stolen items at homes on both Navajo Trail and Fir Trail.

They found everything from nails to dry wall and even mattresses.

Police say they have since returned all of the stolen items to the construction site.

Inside this home on Fir Trail police also found meth.

The couple was taken to the Clare County jail and was charged for having those drug Wednesday.

James Besteman is also facing a habitual offender fourth offense charge.

Those living nearby say hearing about the thefts and drugs is concerning.

“I’ve talked to them a couple times and they told me they were getting the extra stuff from work, so I thought that was believable. They also kinda told me they had three bathtubs,” Danielle Hardy who lives nearby said.

Police tell us the couple will still face theft charges in Isabella County and are expected to be arraigned there within the next two days.
