Hook & Hunting: Bear, Elk Hunting Licenses

The deadline to apply for bear and elk hunting licenses is next Friday.

The DNR is issuing 200 elk licenses and more than 7,000 bear licenses.

For the bear hunt, you must have a permit for the area of the state you wish to hunt.

You can fill out an application at the DNR’s office, online, or at any other hunting license distributor.

Since there are a limited number, those who apply will be entered into a drawing.

So it’s important to apply before June 1.

“Just remember to get your name in the hat for this drawing. If you go five consecutive without applying, you will actually forfeit all of those points or chances you’ve accumulated. So, make sure if you’re looking to hunt a bear or an elk in your future, you get your application in for that,” said Katie Keen, wildlife communications coordinator.

The DNR will announce who will get bear and elk licenses on June 25.
