Michigan Senate Passes Safe Passing Bill to Protect Bicyclists

Lawmakers in Lansing are working on new legislation that would protect bikers.

Senators approved a bill saying motorists must stay three feet away while passing a bike on the road.

Wednesday they voted to require teen drivers to learn about laws pertaining to bikers during their drivers training course.

The House passed similar bills in March — both are expected to move on to Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk.

Michigan is among 11 states without safe passing laws for bikes.
