Services Being Held for Late Elk Rapids Police Chief

Memorials are now underway for Elk Rapids Police Chief Tom Emerson.

He was found dead in his home last week of a brain aneurysm.

Emerson worked at the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office for more than 25 years.

He then became the Elk Rapids Police Chief — and on top of that, worked with several local fire departments.

A visitation is going on at the Sacred Heart Church in elk Rapids until 8 p.m. Sunday.

A procession will take Emerson on his last patrol from Traverse City to Elk Rapids starting at 9 a.m. Monday.

A visitation will then take place at New Hope Community Church from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

A funeral service will follow.

9&10’s Whitney Amann will have coverage of tomorrow’s ceremonies.
