UPDATE: Man Facing Charges After Standoff in Isabella County
“He started begging me to leave and told me to start running because he said he was, like, gonna shoot me,” said Christian Cowen.
A man is in the Isabella County Jail after deputies say he barricaded himself inside a home and fired off a number of gunshots.
The sheriff says the man had been making suicidal comments and it appears he had been drinking when the dangerous situation started at a home on Wing road in Deerfield Township, Friday afternoon.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they heard a gunshot.
The sheriff says the man’s daughter was able to get out of the house safely.
Investigators tried to make contact with the man at the door but say he made threatening comments and fired another 10 to 12 rounds inside the house.
No one was hurt and a few hours later, the man surrendered to police.
We spoke with his daughter, who says she can’t believe something like this happened.
“I just wish it wouldn’t have escalated like this, because that’s not who he is,” said Christian, Darrell’s daughter. “He’s always been a family man. He’s supported our whole family our whole life. He’s an awesome dad. I got everything I wanted… It’s just crazy that it came to this, because I never thought that this would ever happen. It’s just a mix of drugs and alcohol.”
The sheriff says the man will face several weapons charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm.
We’re told deputies were at the same house a couple months ago for a similar incident.
