Transportation Grant Paves Way For Close to 50 New Jobs in Mackinac County
The state announced a new transportation grant Wednesday that will help bring close to 50 new jobs to Mackinac County.
A $456,233 grant from MDOT, along with private and public investment will create a right turn lane on part of US-2 West at Borgrstrom Road north of Hudson Township and on US-2 East near Moran Township.
It will improve traffic flow and safety for hauling trucks, specifically trucks coming from Graymont, a leading supplier of lime and limestone who plans on putting millions of dollars into redeveloping a quarry in Mackinac County.
“I think it’s really good that the governor’s office and MDOT both realize the importance of this project, this project is huge for Mackinac County, we’re talking about a lot of jobs, quality jobs which are really important especially in western Mackinac County, they’re the anchor of all those communities,” Lester Livermore, said.
The total cost for the project is $760,388.
Road construction is expected to begin soon.
