Senator Stamas Asks Gov. Snyder to Remove Gladwin Co. Drain Commissioner

State Senator Jim Stamas is asking Governor Rick Snyder to remove the Gladwin County drain commissioner.

He says he’s not doing his job and is hurting the county, its residents and natural resources.

Senator Stamas released a statement Tuesday saying he supports the board of commissioners’ request to remove Commissioner Robert Evans.

He says he’s deeply concerned about the drain commissioner’s “repeated failures over many years to properly maintain the county drains, protect Michigan’s waterways from soil erosion and respond to state violations.”

In April the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality filed a civil suit against Evans for nearly $11 billion.

The suit says Evans allegedly repeatedly violated environmental regulations for the last*six years.

Senator Stamas says removing an elected officer is rare, but serious lack of duty cannot be tolerated.
