Hazardous Waste Drop Off Coming Up
If spring cleaning has extended beyond your home and into your garage, the Grand Traverse County Recycle Smart program is hosting a hazardous waste drop off event Thursday, May 10.
You’ll be able to drop off everything from gasoline to antifreeze to pesticides and everything in between.
It just takes 15 minutes to drop your items off, and you don’t even have to leave your car.
They say the program exists because these items could cause harm to you or your family when they’re disposed of improperly.
“When they’re put in a landfill that product eventually leaches out or could leach out into the water table so there are proper places for these items and there are consequences when we don’t follow the procedure where to properly dispose of them,” said David Schaffer, the resource recovery department manager.
It’s an event you must sign up for.
There’s only time-slots available for 345 people, plus 25 businesses.
287 people signed up for the last drop off event.
