Update: Manistee Riverwalk to Remain Closed After Seiche

The Manistee Riverwalk will stay closed after it was pummeled during a seiche event.

Early Friday morning, the storm pushed water into the Lake Michigan shoreline, causing the water to rise up to 10 feet in Manistee.

The city’s Department of Public Safety says the water level is going back down, but the seiche damaged the Manistee shoreline.

The city is closing the Riverwalk as they assess the damage from the seiche.

Lots near Lake Michigan, River Channel and Manistee Lake will also be closed.

In addition, the city is closing the 1st Street Beach boat launch, the 9th Street boat launch, the Arthur Street boat launch, the 5th Avenue Beach parking lot and the Lion’s Pavilion parking lot until they are assessed for damage.
