Norte’s “Move Mas” Program Motivates Kids With Friendly Competition

Kids in the Traverse City and Elk Rapids area can get prescriptions for physical activity.

It’s part of Norte’s youth cycling Move Mas program.

Children go to the family pediatrician’s office, who prescribe some type of transportation centered physical activity like walking or biking to the school or park.

Kids then take that information and plug it into Norte’s website where they complete the challenges for prizes like a new bike, running shoes or even beach bum tickets.

“I think it’s very helpful because it gives them other ways to move so definitely the fewer screens the better, getting kids up and about and to think about moving as a form of transportation and not just as a form of play, so take the opportunity to bike to the library or walk to the store,” Sarah Mulder said.
