Benzie County Man Arrested with Over 2 Kilos of Cocaine Found Through Mail

A Benzie County man is in jail on a $5 million bond.

Investigators say he received $300,000 worth of cocaine in the mail.

A joint investigation between the United States Postal Service, Traverse Narcotics Team and Benzie County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest.

Investigators say they found $300,000 worth of cocaine inside a package shipment that came from Texas.

Investigators say a postal inspector spotted a suspicious package filled with two kilograms of cocaine.

Investigators will hold a press conference about the major bust Monday afternoon.

Jason Lopez is the man accused of receiving the package.

The Traverse Narcotics Team and the U.S. Postal Service conducted a controlled delivery of the package to a home on Love Road.

They then searched the home and also found marijuana, scales and packing material.

Lopez is in the Benzie County Jail expected to be charged with multiple felonies, including drug dealing.

Police say he will likely be indicted on federal narcotic charges, and they do expect to make additional arrests.
