Man Accused of Attacking Officer, Trying to Set Home on Fire While Being Arrested in Montcalm Co.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office says a man attacked an officer, tried to set a home on fire and steal a vehicle.

It all started when a sergeant confronted Ark Chapman in Edmore about a warrant for his arrest, for sex and other crimes involving children.

The sheriff says Chapman got violent and began fighting with the officer.

He tried to take his gun, then ran away.

Chapman was later found hiding in an attic.

While up there, the sheriff’s office says he tried to start a fire.

They say Chapman then got on the roof and fell off.

Then ran away again.

That’s when deputies say he tried to steal a vehicle.

He was finally arrested.

In all, 14 officers from several agencies helped arrest Chapman.

He’s now facing a slew of assault charges, as well as trying to disarm an officer and destroying police property.
