Students Nationwide to Walk Out of Class, Protesting Gun Violence
Thousands of students across the country are expected to walk out of their classrooms Wednesday, protesting gun violence.
That includes several schools here in Northern Michigan.
The walkouts will be 17 minutes long, in honor of the 17 victims who were killed during a school shooting in Florida exactly one month ago.
This will be the biggest demonstration of student activism yet, with 3,000 walkouts planned for today at 10 a.m. nationwide.
The protests have drawn mixed reactions from school administrators.
Some are applauding students for taking a stand, while others are threatening discipline.
Students say they don’t care about the consequences because the issue is too important to remain silent.
Here in Michigan, police are making sure it’s a safe experience for everyone.
