Charity Joke Jam Kicks Off in Traverse City
There’s a growing comedy scene in Northern Michigan and these comedians are ready to entertain us.
Your laughs are even going to a good cause with proceeds benefitting local non-profits.
“People are going to be surprised by the diverse and funny people in Traverse City,” Matthew Zerilli, comedian.
Matthew Zerilli is one of the many comedians that will be hosting and cracking jokes throughout the six week competition.
“It’s the first time we’ve ever done it its exciting in the sense that a lot of comics up here at our open mics. We’ve never really done anything like this so it’s a chance for us to work on our chops a bit,” says Zerilli.
Every week the audience along with judges from local non-profits vote on who they want to see in the final competition next month.
“We’re going to have a judge’s vote and a crowd vote every night. That crowd votes going to be judged by dollar bills that you put in a jar for the comic so it’s a great way to give back to the community and give to these great non-profits,” says Zerilli.
The prize for the comedian with the most votes will be opening up for Stuart Huff who’s a nationally touring comedian
“We’re going to have some twenty different comedians. There’s going to be a bracket every night to make it competitive,” says Zerilli.
The two winning comedians at the end of each night will advance to the next round.
“We’re trying to bring attention to the fact that there is a local comedy scene and also to just help support our community at the same time,” Heather Hudson, event host.
The first competition Monday March 12th, at the Workshop Brewing Company.
