Gov. Snyder Set to Sign Bill to Increase Fees to Upgrade 911 System

Governor Rick Snyder is set to sign a bill that will slightly increase your phone bill.

Money from that will help pay for upgrades to the state’s 911 system.

The bill will boost the monthly surcharge on phone bills by 6 cents, but that small fee will generate $20 million more per year.

Supporters say the 911 system is in dire need of upgrades and first responders will be better equipped to respond to a scene with more information like pictures, videos, text and GPS.

Snyder is expected to sign the bill Tuesday.
