Deputies Stop Another Suicide Attempt at Grand Traverse County Jail

We are still working to bring you answers to the many questions surrounding a suicide at the Grand Traverse County Jail last week.

We’ve learned of another suicide attempt that deputies were able to stop.

Monday afternoon, a 22-year-old Traverse City woman was put in an observation cell because of a possible fight.

About 45 minutes later, she was seen with a shirt looped around her neck and tied to the bed.

Police say this was at least her second attempt at suicide.

We have submitted a Freedom of Information Act request on the investigation into last week’s suicide, along with information on all of the suicide attempts at the jail from the past year.

We made those requests last week and the department has 10 business days to get back to us.

We’ll bring you an update as soon there’s a response.
