Man Charged for Police Chase in Mount Pleasant

A man faces charges after leading police on a high-speed chase through Mount Pleasant.

City police says Gonzalo Alaniz was driving on Broomfield near Mission Street around 1 a.m. on Wednesday when an officer noticed him commit a traffic violation.

When the officer tried to pull him over, Alaniz sped up, ran through a flashing red-light at the intersection of Broomfield and Isabella.

He reached more than 100 miles per hour while traveling on Isabella, then stopped abruptly at the intersection of High Street.

Alaniz was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.

A 19-year-old man in the passenger seat was also arrested for having an open container and cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol.
