Tech on Tuesday: Which Smart Speaker is Right for You?

Considering investing in a smart speaker, but aren’t sure which one is right for you?

In this week’s Tech on Tuesday, we take a look what you should consider when buying a smart speaker.

Smart speakers can cost anywhere from $40 to $400, so the best thing to do is to start by setting a budget. The Apple HomePod and the Google Home Max are on the high end of the price scale. The regular Google Home and Amazon Echo cost about $100, and the Home Mini and Echo Dot are $40 apiece.

If you’re main goal is to have a home assistant help you around the house, your best bet will be the Echo or Google Home. Alexa on the Echo works with more smart home appliances, while Google’s Assistant is better at answering your questions. As for the HomePod, Siri just can’t keep up with the others.

If you’re goal is great sound quality while listening to music, you’ll want to go with the HomePod or the Home Max. None of the others even come close when it comes to sound quality. Apple Music subscribers might want to consider the HomePod, while subscribers to Spotify or other music services might want to consider the Google Home Max.
